*The Tragedy of North Korea, and Japan [021203-12]

Since Japanese Prime Minister, Koizumi, visited North Korea in November, the topic of North Korea has appeared TV programs everyday. Recently, the main point that they report is how hard the system of the totalitarianism and the violation of human right of this nation is. The people who are well informed about North Korea already know most of them, but some of them give us interesting points of views.

The actual circumstances of this country had been covered for a long time. However, it was possible to watch the programs broadcasted by North Korea. A night program made by TBS reported the programs of North Korea for children. It was stimulus reports even for me, because the little children who appear in the TV programs show so excellent performance like precision mercenaries. One child shows dancing, and another plays instrument. Many children sing in chorus for praising The General (it is the usual name of dictator Kim). All their behaviors are calculated to glorify Kim father and son. It is awful that we cannot find unexpected behavior that is typical of such little children.

The people who hear about the actual condition of North Korea will be surprised and have antagonism against Kim administration. However, it has been already well-known thing for me. Rather, what I think of through the repeated reports about North Korea is the people who support the political system of this country. It is impossible to construct and maintain this system only by the limited people who rule this country. There must be many people who support the political system even reluctantly.

So my thought cannot but refer to the people who work in Japanese Kaisha reluctantly. Perhaps both in North Korea and Japan, the people who obey unlimited political order willingly without doubt are not so many. However, when strong pressure forces people to do something, many of them seek something excuses justifying their condition. Political ideology works very well for such people. And some people begin to acquire their own profit from this political order. In the interview of a woman who worked in secret police, she talked that her boss had forced to fabricate an innocent woman to Japanese spy. She hated the order of her boss and exiled from the country. Usually, many people notice the sense of her justice. But the mentality of her boss attracted my notice, rather.

The system of totalitarianism pollutes human mind. The people who ruled by this system lose the sense of good and evil, because the totalitarian government forces what they must do, and the standard of goodness is usually decided by individual arbitrariness. Ironically, totalitarianism is the system, in which each person is indifferent from the whole. Because of the compulsion of government, individual people lose the room to consider their own life. On the other hand, the government ignore what they should do, once it order its people. The people do not care the whole, and the government does not consider the detail of each person.

The system of North Korea is extreme example of this irresponsibility. Both the administration and the people who follow it cunningly utilize each other, and victims are honest people. In this system, except the being that behave like cancer cell to pollute others, there is no room to live. Already the name of General Kim has become necessary for the people who adapt themselves this system, and they will sacrifice others as possible like the boss of police.

Kim family is the central cancer organization. But it is not only one. Every people who live in this society, especially who work police system, cannot but behave like cancer cell. The only way to live is to abandon human sense of morality.

Here is the reason why I cannot find effective way to solve the problem of North Korea. It may be possible to destroy this political system physically by outer power. However, how usual people live after that. It will cause very serious trouble to live with the people who do not have the sense of morality. Perhaps, they cannot construct something social without compulsion. But who can compel something social expect present system? There are many people who blame the system of North Korea, but I have not heard concrete idea how to manage the country after the destruction of present administration.

It is no use only to blame North Korea. Do the people who blame this nation have the prepare to solve the problem? If U.S. army decides to crash North Korea, Tepodon may attach Japanese land. If China opens the borderline, many refugees will flue to surrounding countries. Also, even if present administration is crashed physically, it is hard to reconstruct the country. How we lead the people who have lived in the system, in which only the obedience to Kim family is virtue and they do not have the sense of spontaneous action.

The obedience without critic is the accelerator without brake. The politic system, in which the obedience to the nation is unique virtue of people, always has the danger to be reckless. Both North Korean and Japanese society recommend people the obedience as virtue, but do not foster the spirit of critic though they admit the importance of critic formerly. The tragedy of North Korea is also the tragedy of Japan, though the former is much purer and more extreme than the latter.

*On the Last Day of This Year [021231]

Formerly, I like to watch news TV programs. But now not so. Since September 11, 2001, the world has become worse little by little. What irrigates me so much is the irresponsibility of usual people. In Japan, incompetent people support L.D.P. as former. Also, in U.S., the people are dull to the danger of Bush ministration. In the future, it is necessary to construct the world, in which each people is responsible to each negligence. It is sin in modern world to sit back only watching TV.
