*The tragedy of American Identity [0801-05]
If English were my native tongue, I will not suffer from learning foreigner languages. I would read more books in English and publish my thought more widely. As U.S. dollar is international monetary, English is the international language and U.S. monopolizes main human sign system in our world.
Nevertheless, I do not feel English native speakers rules academic world as U.S. dollar does in economic world. Although most of main theses are published in English, many non-English native speakers advance intellectual society. Ironically, the more common language English is for many outer people, Indians have possibility to deprive of the office job for American people. From economic point of view, it is similar with the possibility that American labors in factories had lost their job by import commodities. However, languages have cultural meaning that money does not have. If American people do not consider the fact that intellectual job is gone because English is international language, they may lose their cultural identity as U.S. or British people.
Especially, in the case of U.S., it may be difficult to construct their national identity depending on English. English is originally European language and now so international that it is used by the people who oppose U.S. policy. Therefore, even if American people want to establish their unique characteristic, it will be only way to make their culture the cultural standard of the world. However, it causes the cultural frictions out of U.S.
It is true that U.S. sub culture becomes the standard of our world. But it does not mean the people out of U.S. accept American spirit as U.S. people do. American sub cultures are only surface fashion for others, and they accept them according to their cultural standpoints. The theme of U.S. movies, for example, is simple and attracts many people by their exciting action and love stories. But they can be found everywhere. U.S. cultural industries extend them extremely making use of abundant money and talent.
It is unfortunate for U.S. people that they cannot have
their identity except making their culture global standard. The more international
language English becomes, and the more commonly accepted their entertainment
by other people, they miss their own identity. On the other hand, they
have too many native cultures that is carried by immigrants. Before establishing
their own identity, they may fall into confusion of internationalization.
I hope they will not cover their suffering by using military power to other
people.
*The Problem of Personal Matter in Japanese Organizations [0811-12]
The most problems that is special in Japanese society attribute to personal matters. The organizations in Japan arrange individuals ignoring personal fitness. In spite of its importance, there are few people who will reform the system of personal matters. It represents that only limited people can assess personal ability. Also many Japanese people have believed that the problem of fitness will be solved by individual effort. As long as most of employees are engaged in same kind of work, individual effort is superior to their talent. However, the people whom Japanese society seeks are the limited but talented people who lead their society.
The myth of effort and equality have been covered the
truth that each individual has different possibility from others. The former
generation of mine cannot receive the simple fact that we are different,
and so forced us myth of effort for their ideal of equality. I once heard
that boys and girls mixed to march in school. They fear so much the fact
of inequality! It is deplorable for me that there have been few people
to tell truth. Human beings are born unequally, but should have possibility
equally to find his/her own fitness. The duty of human society is to guarantee
the chance for all people.
*On the Anniversary Day in Summer [0815]
It is very fortunate that August 15 is the day for the
deceased and also the anniversary day the World War 2 ended. Nevertheless,
there are some young people who do not know today is the anniversary day.
It shows how Japanese people are suited colonized.
