The names of these islands are first appeared on Kutsuna-Bunsho, ancient manuscripts, more than 1200 years ago. And the name of ﾔKutsunaﾕ was named after ﾔKutsuna-familyﾕ who used to rule this area as ﾔSuigunﾕ, an independent armed force specially trained for the battle on the sea.

Being isolated from the mainlands of Japan, our ancestors have preserved interesting local customs and cultures.
