Over the Time and the DistanceRescue at War

This is a painting offered to a local shrine in Iyo City next to Matsuyama by a soldeir who returned from the Russo-Japanese War for remembering what happened there in the battle field in China. On the down-left corner, we can find a Japanese soldier holding an injuerd Russian soldier and another Japanese soldier bringing him a bottle of water in his hand. The painting describes the reality of war but also shows the humanity of what people have inside. Since this painting was introduced on TV in several years ago, people working at Russian Consulate in Japan visited the shrine and also the Russian Graveyard in Matsuyama. Through this occasion, people of both countries have started a youth exchange program, and Russian and Japanese Children have been visiting each other every year.
