バヌアツは南太平洋のニュー へブリディーズ諸島と呼ばれ、イギリス とフランスの共同統治下から１９８０年以独立しました。
バヌアツは、メラネシア語で「我々の土地」あるいは「独立した土地」のような意味だそうです。
