マラウイは、アフリカ南東部のマラウィ湖の西岸にある内陸国で、東西は 90－161km、南北 900kmと細長い国です。
独立以降、アフリカでは珍しく対外戦争や内戦を経験しておらず ”The Warm Heart of Africa"(アフリカの暖かい心）
と言う別名を持つそうです。
